Spring and summer 2019 see Jan Vogler traveling from Münster to Bogotá, performing new works and familiar favorites alike. On April 16, the German cellist performs the first of two evenings of Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor with the Sinfonieorchester Münster, joining conductor Golo Berg for a program of French music. Jan then visits the Bogotá Festival to perform Schumann’s Cello Concerto in a minor with the Dresden Festival Orchestra (April 19) and Brahms’ Double Concerto with violinist Ray Chen and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (April 20).
On April 27, Jan visits Florida for a program titled French Soirée, reprising Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor with Music Director Eric Jacobsen and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. The next month Jan brings a recital of Schumann, Beethoven, and Shostakovich to Wigmore Hall in London. The May 5 recital also features Finnish pianist Antti Siirala.
The Dresden Music Festival opens on May 16 with German bass René Pape and Ivor Bolton leading the Dresden Festival Orchestra, followed by the May 18 premiere of Nico Muhly, Sven Helbig, and Zhou Long’s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra. Jan’s performance will mark the World Premiere of this concerto, which brings together three contemporary composers from three different continents.
