The Festival’s programs reflect the many facets of chamber music literature while focusing intense attention on contemporary works as well. Since 1997 the Moritzburg Festival has featured a composer-in-residence; in the past, this position has been held by composers including Wolfgang Rihm, Sofia Gubaidulina, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jörg Widmann, among others.
However, outstanding musicality must be safeguarded for the future. Support for rising young artists is one of the Moritzburg Festival’s central concerns. Since the founding of the Moritzburg Festival Academy in 2006, young musicians have had the opportunity to intensely work on joint programs, introducing themselves to a broader audience in various concert formats.
The Moritzburg Festival has also recorded numerous prize-winning CDs.
